The future of nanotechnology

Industrialization has changed the face of many villages and towns. Prior to the geographical concentration was made in terms of specialization, designing, manufacturing and specialization was done as local activities. Several automobiles and farm machines were originated from small manufacturing units across several parts in US and Europe, and later, the radio sets and TVs were featured the similar origins. However, these electronic products were niche and always required special attention. Because of competition, there were continuous improvements done to enhance the production lines. There were different system integrators designed to satisfy the good design and customization of products.

The system integrators play a great role to assemble the cars and electronic goods from general components which are produced by few of the specialized plants. There are only five to ten major suppliers of batteries, LCD displays, keyboards and few electrical and transmission systems. Concentration of resources has become a common phenomenon these days because many people are using fewer and fewer resources. Hence, today chip and integrated circuit sector has become one of the fastest and the largest industry in the world with cost of $2 billion. In fact, there has been so much innovation in the chip industry that the size of the chips have been reduced from a whopping 10,000 nm to much lesser than 100 nm, now it is even much lesser than 30 nm. With more innovation and continuous development in this sector, it is expected that the size of the chips will fall below 10 nanometers and 3D is going to be a very common feature.
Nanotechnology

It is estimated that the Japan, US, UK, Korea and Taiwan would be the front runner in providing the design, material and manufacturing innovation. It is also estimated that the chip industry would be diversified and will not be concentrated in a specific region as the case was with battery and display industries. So with the current phase of development in the chip building, it is expected that the size of the chips would shrink down to 1 nm or even below.

With the current phase in the development, it is estimated that in the sub-10 nm region, a new concept would originate which would change the way manufacturing and distribution is done. There is a possibility that a new technology would originate by integrating the inorganics and organics which would lead to self-organization. This will completely change the game in the field of nanotechnology.
