Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3
Panasonic has announced Lumix DMC-GF3, the successor to its widely popular Lumix DMC-GF2 camera. The GF2 camera gained popularity owing to its interchangeable lens and high functionality. The new model, which has been announces as a successor, is actually more of a development over the initial version in many ways. Although new developments have been made in design and performance, it remains very similar to GF2. The camera has a sensor of 12 megapixels and a high definition video camera of 1080i AVCD. The design is more curvy, slim, light and sleek than the previous model. The camera has a control dial instead of buttons. Flash hot shoe, stereo microphones and optical viewfinder accessory port have been removed in this model and replaced with a small mic. The common features of GF2 and 3 are shutter speed, sensitivity range and the three inch touch screen control. However, performance has changed for the better with better autofocus system and improved battery life. Another feature worth mentioning is the enhanced burst-mode image capturing, which has been improved from 3.2fps to 3.8fps.
Similarities with the more expensive Lumix DMC-G3
This is a lower end model from Panasonic but Panasonic has incorporated certain features from its more expensive model, Lumix DMC-G3. The major adoption is Pinpoint AF function. When compared to the lower end mode, this feature in the higher end one is very precise and allows accurate autofocus. The touch screen provides easy handling and navigation. Another feature that has been incorporated into this model is Precision Contrast LightSpeed AF System. This extremely powerful feature increases sensor drive speed two times over. Provision of visual feedback in real time is an added advantage in this camera model.
Special features in Lumix DMC-GF3
Multifunctional touch screen ability and of this model is its biggest advantage. When compared to GF2, you can use it more efficiently and for many functions. It is possible to de-focus backlights, compensate exposure control and balance whiteness or contrast. Color present is better and special effective filters have been provided for enhanced usability. These features have also been borrowed from G3.
How does the camera cost?
In July this year, Panasonic will sell the camera for $699.99. The camera will contain a 14mm, f/2.5 kit for the lens. In the consequent month, the company will bring down the cost to $599.99.
