A survey conducted recently has revealed interesting results about usage of Android operating system by various phone manufacturers such as Samsung, HTC, LG and the others. The company that uses Android the most is Samsung. It has thirty smart phones that run on android technology. These phones have been supplied to various network providers. However, the company that has come out as the one that is most updated in Android usage is HTC.Of the many phones that HTC manufactures, fourteen are equipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. HTC has fourteen of its phones that have received updates of the operating system. In this regard, LG ranks the highest. 60% of all LG phones have received Android updates. HTC comes second with 58% of the phones being updated. However, the smart phone that has the latest update of the software is HTC. Samsung wins when it comes to numbers.
Thirty three phones (same phone supplied to a different network provider is repeated in the count) of Samsung are equipped with Android when compared to nine of LG and 14 of HTC. The survey was conducted by Android Update Alliance (AUA). The other phone manufacturers who participated in the survey were Casio, Sony Ericsson, Huawei, Kyocera and Pantech.
Excluding Casio, Pantech, Kyocera and Huawei phones, a total of thirty two handsets are powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Twenty three phones use the older version Android 2.2 Froyo while the there are six smart phones that run on the oldest version Android 2.1 Éclair. Eight phones of LG, six phones of Motorola, eleven phones of Samsung, twelve phones of HTC and eleven phones of Sony Ericsson use Android 2.3. The survey conducted on network providers revealed that three phones by AT&T, seven by Sprint, six by T-mobile, two by Verizon and fourteen by Vodafone are powered by Android 2.3 version. Android devices running on AT&T network are scheduled for updates by the end of 2011. However, other network providers have not come out with such promises.
The usage of Android has seen a tremendous increase in the recent times. In the running month of September, new Android phones are due for release. Samsung is to release its Galaxy S II while Motorola has released the launch date for Droid Bionic to be September 8. Nexus Prime is another device that is scheduled for release this month. In addition to these devices, there is a heightened anticipation for the new Ice Cream Sandwich version.
