As the last year did not come out as much successful for Research In Motion the company has put all its efforts to kick start 2012 with a new set of discounts on BlackBerry Playbook. In United State the company has announced a pretty good round of discount on the straggling tablet until the 4th day of February or until the stock come to an end. Until the mentioned time or situation arrives all of the models of the BlackBerry Playbook will be available in $299 in United State. The actual prices of the 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB models of the PlayBook are $499, $599 and $699 respectively. That means in that discount period one can get more that $400 off if he sticks to the larger model of PlayBook.
It is for the first time that the company is selling 32 GB and 64 GB PlayBook models in such low price. Still in the holiday sales the price of the 16 GB PlayBook model fell to the lowest $199.
Although the company had lots of anticipation for the PlayBook but the device was not just good enough to stand it. In the first quarter of the last year only 500,000 PlayBooks were shipped. In the second quarter 250,000 more PlayBooks were shipped and the third quarter experienced the shipment of only 150,000 PlayBooks. However the company projected to ship 1 million units in January. Recently the company is reported to decide a $485 million charge against the revenues collected from the unsold stock of PlayBooks.
But according to market analysts in spite of announcing the amazing discount offer it will be hard enough for BlackBerry to persuade people to buy the PlayBooks. It is because of the fact that a number of fresh tablets are expected to hit the CES by the end on this week. Another tough hurdle for the PlayBooks is Amazon’s Kindle Fire which is now selling like hot cakes due to its low range of $200 in sale and its offering of a wider access to Amazon contents and apps.
