After a huge amount of success in the manufacture of HD TVs, Vizio has launched its new tablet. The tablet is comparatively cheap and it is to be seen it can possibly compete against the big players in the tabloid market. A very interesting feature of this tablet is that one can control home theatre with the help of the IR blaster present in this tablet. The look has an expensive feel to it. The jet black colour of the front and the grey back side which helps to have a firm grip are quite good for the eye. The display of the tablet is 8 inches with a resolution of 1024×768. The picture quality is pretty good. It is comparatively bright but it certainly could have been better. Two speakers rest on top of the phone while one rests on the bottom. As such the sound performance especially the bass quality was not bad at all. SRS Labs help you adjust the sound settings.
There are three buttons namely Back, Home and Menu situated below the display. The VGA camera is placed above the display. The back side consists of the Vizio logo prominently embossed. There are also a number of ports present including the USB port, a HDMI port and a headphone jack. There is VGA camera on top of the display which enables you to video chat.
The device is powered by a 1 GHz processor combined with a 512MB RAM. It was not as swift as one would expect it to be. The graphics performance is not that impressive as well. The tablet has the Android 2.3.2 Gingerbread. There are buttons for the music, e-mail, gallery, etc on the home screen. One can also load the WidgetBoard with the required widgets. The battery lasts for around 7 hours.
The touchscreen keyboard works with the TouchType Swiftkey X and one can type in two modes i.e. the portrait mode which supports the normal keyboard and the landscape mode which has the split keyboard.
The Remote Control software is however one of the things to look out for in this tablet. One can control home theatre with the help of this software. There is an in built IR blaster and along with the Remote Control devices like TVs and others can be controlled and it can also be done very easily.
The Vizio Tablet comes at a price of $289 on the internet. It is a nice Android tablet but it is certainly not the best in its performance. But one may opt for this device to control home theatres.
